2) What do I need to know about martingale collars?

Martingale collars give the pet owner more control over their dog when walking because when the dog pulls, the collar tightens down on the neck.  With a standard choke chain, the chain tightens down and digs into the neck.  With Pupperazi martingales, very little of the collar consists of chain.  When the collar tightens down, it is fabric that tigthens around the neck and not a metal chain.  The chain allows a quick correction or release when the dog stops pulling.  Pupperazi martingales are also available with a fabric or nylon replacement piece for those who do not like the noise of the chain.  Be advised that with a fabric replacement, wear and tear will happen far more quickly on the replacement piece than will occur with nylon or chain.

Due to the variable nature of martingale collars, they should only be used by knowledgeable owners.  There is always the risk that the collar could get caught on something and if the dog pulls, the collar could tighten down on the neck.  When unsupervised, the collar should be kept loose enough that it could slide over the head should this happen.  Due to the tightening function of martingale collars, they are NOT suitable for all dogs.  Smaller dogs or dogs with thin, fragile necks can become injured.  Tiny dogs such as yorkies, chihuahuas, poodles, teacups, etc. can sustain injury from any collar that tightens around the neck.  Dogs with a history of trachea injury should not wear them.  Harnesses are more suitable in these instances when desiring more control.  Should you have any further questions, please email me.  Always use your best judgement when using martingale collars.
